Aaron Rodgers says he's very impressed with Zach Wilson: 'I'm so excited for what he can do in this league'

Aaron Rodgers saw plenty of Zach Wilson when the Green Bay Packers had joint practices with the New York Jets last week. Rodgers didn't play in the teams' preseason game, but wasn't surprised Wilson performed as well as he did.

The way Rodgers sees it -- the Jets have a franchise quarterback.

"He's a good young kid, has a nice disposition," Rodgers said, via Tyler Calvaruso of Yahoo! Sports. "That kid can throw the heck out of that ball and that was a nice one down the right sideline at the end of the first. I'm so excited for what he can do in this league."

Wilson finished 9 of 11 for 128 yards and two touchdown passes in Saturday's game, finishing with a 154.7 passer rating. Of players with 20-plus passing attempts, Wilson leads all quarterbacks in the league in passer rating (137.7). The Jets took Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick, and have been more than impressed with how he's developed in training camp.

Rodgers even took the time to help Wilson out during the joint practices, not uncommon for a veteran quarterback to do for a young signal caller -- even though it speaks volumes about Wilson's potential and how highly Rodgers thinks of him.

"The biggest thing I picked up was two minute drill, just how calm and collected he is," Wilson said about Rodgers last week. "He's kind of just out there, almost like he's just messing around, playing backyard football, he's having a good time and he makes it work. It's cool to ask him about footwork, what's going on on the field, what he's seeing. If I could spend more time with him and just keep asking questions, I would."

Wilson looked up to Rodgers growing up, calling him his favorite player. There are certainly similarities between Wilson's game and Rodgers' -- which is not a coincidence.

"He's always been someone I definitely modeled my game after," Wilson said. "I've always tried to copy what he's been doing, because he's done it for such a long time. He's just a fun player to watch and he just plays the game the right way.

"There are not many guys, I'd say, in the league that can do what he's doing out there."
