Customer leaves $10K tip at Florida seafood restaurant

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A customer left staff at a Florida seafood restaurant a hefty tip Tuesday night in Gainesville.

According to a Facebook post from Wahoo Seafood Grill, a customer asked the restaurant staff to gather in a dining area where he thanked the staff for their hard work and said he would be giving them $1,000 each.

“I’m not usually an emotional guy, but this really got me. I’m blown away. We’re ALL blown away by his generosity,” owner Shawn Shepherd said in the post. “The last year and a half hasn’t been easy on this industry. We’re hurting and we’re exhausted, but this incredible act of kindness has restored our faith in humanity.”

The staff split the $10,000 tip that Shepherd said was like “Christmas morning” amid the toll the ongoing pandemic has taken on the restaurant industry in the past year, the Associated Press reports.

“We’re still in shock,” a representative said Monday afternoon.

“We’re just a local, veteran-owned seafood restaurant doing our best to weather this storm — and this is truly the last thing we expected to happen on a regular Tuesday night,” Shepherd said in the post. “Our whole staff would like to thank this generous customer from the bottom of our hearts. We are all going to pay it forward in our own ways.”
