Bucks County’s COVID-19 case and hospitalization numbers continued to rise last week.

The county had 1,099 new COVID-19 infections last week, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health data. The number of new cases was an increase over the previous week and dramatic increase from the 46 cases reported in the first week of July.

There were 230 new cases last Tuesday, which was the highest number of new cases in a single day since April.

The COVID-19 test positivity rate in Bucks County increased from 5.5 percent to 7.1 percent. A test positivity rate higher than 5 percent means health experts consider the spread uncontrolled.

By Monday, Bucks County had 55 people in hospitals with COVID-19 and 10 of them in intensive care. The numbers were about double that from earlier in the month.

No Bucks Countians died from COVID-19 last week. At of the end of last week, seven local residents had died of COVID-19 in August, a lower rate than in August 2020.

Vaccinations continued last week with more than 50 percent of Bucks Countians fully vaccinated, according to the county health department.

State data showed 40,123 Bucks Countians were partially vaccinated and 320,307 were fully vaccinated at the start of this week.

Vaccinations were relatively steady last week over the prior seven-day period, but the number of shots administered was higher than in early July. The vast majority of COVID-19 vaccinations in the county took place in spring.
