Who Could Be College GameDay's Celebrity Guest Picker at Penn State?

Once again, ESPN College GameDay is back at Penn State as the Nittany Lions set to host the No. 22 Auburn Tigers. Each time the crew comes to town, we throw out some names of some potential candidates. Last week in Ames, Iowa State hosted Iowa and ESPN threw a curveball by selecting noted Iowa fan Ashton Kutcher to make the picks as a road team fan.

I have been wracking my brain all week thinking of names, but it's the usual suspects, the Letterman, some sleepers and then my prediction(s) at the end of who could take stage before Lee Corso dons the Nittany Lion head.

The Usual Suspects

Spencer was the guest picker in 2019. She would be a fine candidate, but ESPN is likely to look elsewhere this time.

We all know the striking resemblance between KMK and James Franklin, but he was the guest picker at the 2016 Big Ten Championship game. Like Spencer, been there, done that.

The Jonas family was thrust to the forefront of Nittany Nation after a surprise appearance at Champs a few years back. Though he would be a great picker, I believe that the person chosen will have stronger Penn State ties.

The Football Letterman

Tamba Hali

No one knows how to bring down the White Out house quite like Hali. Now that Hali is retired he would be great on stage. In the meantime, let's watch that play again.

The beloved linebacker tweeted out earlier this week that he would be back in town. That is certainly no lock that he will be chosen, but Mauti has always been great at getting the Nittany Lion faithful fired up.

Christian Hackenberg

"He's going to go for it, right here." In August, Darryl Slater of the York Dispatch wrote an article on Hack and how he found peace after a short stint in the NFL. Hackenberg's legacy at Penn State remains in tact, and would be great to see him finally be appreciated for all he did during his time in Happy Valley.

Just Kidding.

The Sleepers

Charles Barkley

That's not the Barkley that the fans on Old Main lawn would want to see, but not many people are better on camera than Chuck. The Auburn alum has already been on the show several times, but he appeared on ESPN on Monday sporting a Cark Nassib jersey, so he now has ties to both schools.

Bo Jackson

It would be great to see one of the greatest athletes ever, I am only adding Auburn's 1985 Heisman Trophy winner here so we can all watch him run along an outfield wall.

The Boston Celtics former head coach and current President of Basketball Operations is one of the latest Penn State fans after a surprise appearance at the Ball State game last weekend. His ties to new Penn State basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry who was once on Stevens' staff in Boston, make him an ultimate sleeper.

My Pick(s)

I've really been torn on who to pick, but feel like one of these two has to be it. Both choices would be great, but I present the two best suited to be the celebrity picker.

David Taylor

Penn State's Magic Man brought the United States a gold medal after defeating Hassan Yazdani of Iran with a takedown with 0:21 left in the match to win 4-3. Taylor still wrestles in the area and fresh off a gold medal makes him a worthy candidate.

Adam Taliaferro

Just over twenty years ago, Adam Taliaferro defied the odds and led Penn State out of the tunnel before they met their match against Miami. Taliaferro has already been named an honorary captain for the game against Auburn and twenty years after one of the best moments in Beaver Stadium, this seems to be the most logical pick I could come up with.

There you have it, the best I could come up with. Enjoy your Friday daydreaming about Saturday night and hopefully this was a nice distraction and time waster to get you all that closer. Add your picks in the comments since you know I missed a few.
