Real Madrid has forever been a club dictating the histories of club football in Spain and Europe. Over the century of glorious history, the Royal White club has established itself at the very pinnacle of club football. Though the club’s standing may have come down following a hard couple of seasons and struggling finances, its allure will never wear out. And, that is why many footballers still dream of putting on the Royal White kit and playing for the greatest club in history.

This list consists of five such players who dream of a Real Madrid transfer in their careers. As such, it is important to note few criteria I use whilst ranking this list. Firstly, these are all players whose transfer would make good footballing sense which is why some superstar names may be missing. And, secondly, I also consider the chances of a transfer actually happening. Here are my picks for the top five.

Manchester United CM Paul Pogba

When talked of dreaming about Real Madrid there are only a few who come close to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba. Time and again, he has stressed the fact that Real Madrid is his dream club and footballers dream to play for the footballing Royalty as a kid. And, Pogba was surely one of them. It is clear from his quotations over the years that he understands what Real Madrid represents in terms of Club Football.

Paul Pogba can be a great asset to Real Madrid. However, there are certain reasons why he lands up on the bottom spot of this list. Firstly, the recent transfer window saw Manchester United sign players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho. And, to be playing is a star-studded team as such with some of the players he dreamt of playing with can be a huge factor convincing Pogba to extend his stay with the Reds.

Secondly, Pogba is 28 years old, nearing his thirties. And, assuming a move is to be made by next summer, Real Madrid could very well choose to bring in an impressive young player in place of him. There definitely are few barriers between Paul Pogba and his chances of a dream transfer to Real Madrid. However, that doesn’t take away the fact that he is a driving force in midfield and one of the best passers the game has ever seen.

Paul Pogba also makes enough commercial sense for Real Madrid. Especially at a time when the club’s finances aren’t at their best. He is a footballing celebrity who could help the club’s financial armory as well as be a quick fix to Real Madrid’s aging midfield for a couple of years at least. With all that being taken into account, he is the perfect player to kick start this list.

Lyon FW/AM Rayan Cherki

Lyon’s Rayan Cherki is the next big prospect about to be linked to Real Madrid. He considers Real to be his dream club like so many other youngsters working hard in the youth systems around the world. Cherki is a big name, a very sought-after player who is being kept tabs on by many Scouters for top clubs. He broke out through the UEFA Youth League and has grabbed the attention of everyone in the footballing community.

Born in 2003, Rayan Cherki made his debut in Ligue 1 for Lyon’s first team at the age of 16 years. His first goal for the senior team came in January 2004, in a Coupe de France game against Bourg-Peronnas. With it, he became Lyon’s youngest ever goal scorer for the senior team.

Rayan Cherki is an attacker that is what Lyon refers to him as. His profile may list him as an attacking midfielder but he is capable of filling in any missing piece in the attack. He can operate on the flanks, upfront as a striking option, or even play behind the Centre-Forward as a creative influence or almost as a False-9. However, he is indeed most effective as an attacking midfielder.

That is the exact reason why he makes so much sense for Real Madrid. With two aging veterans in their first-choice midfield line-up, keeping tabs on a possible replacement is a smart move to make. Yes, Real Madrid has a hoard of talent in its own Youth system but, Rayan Cherki is something else and Real Madrid has had a history of robbing in wonderkids for further development and exclusive first-team use.

PSG RB Achraf Hakimi

The third player on the list is a former Real Madrid man and an Academy graduate who dreams of returning to the Bernabeu as a key player of the Real Madrid squad, as revealed by his former coach Antonio Conte. The man here is none other than the explosive Achraf Hakimi. Widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in the world, Hakimi can help Real Madrid in a lot of ways.

Ever since the departure of Alvaro Odriozola to Fiorentina on loan, Dani Carvajal has been Real Madrid’s only pure right-back. He has the likes of Lucas Vazquez, a make-shift right-back, and Nacho, a very versatile defender to help him out. However, even Odriozola’s return doesn’t guarantee that he can be Real’s mainstay at right-back. He looked sharp towards the end of last season but had his fair share of nervy moments too.

However, the truth is that he is no match for someone like Achraf Hakimi. It’s unbelievable how useful of a player Hakimi is. He can play as a full-back or in the midfield as well as score goals like a perfect forward. All of that with some unreal pace on the ball, his explosive attacking runs are a delight to watch and at just 22 years of age, Hakimi would be a brilliant player to bring back to the Bernabeu.

He’d solve the problem at right-back and would be the perfect heir to Dani Carvajal who is nearing his thirties and would be feeling the need of a rotational partner. Even without taking the fatigue issue into account, having a quality backup option is always the smarter way out. We saw last season how Carvajal’s season was cut short due to injuries and Zinedine Zidane had to play Lucas Vazquez as the fullback. Having Achraf Hakimi would so easily be the perfect solution.

Dortmund ST Erling Haaland

Finishing on the runners-up position on this list is a striker who is probably the most talked about player of his kind, the explosive Norwegian Erling Haaland. At 21 years of age, he has become the perfect powerhouse in front of the goal. He recently was featured in our list of best strikers playing in the Champions League.

Haaland was linked to several top European clubs but it all ended disappointingly as the superstar striker decided to stay with Borussia Dortmund for one last dance on the European stage with the yellow kit. While it is still not clear what lies in the future for the Norwegian, it is sure that he values a move to Real Madrid more than anything else.

Erling Haaland was always up there alongside Kylian Mbappe as Real Madrid’s plans for improving their attack. They chose to move for Mbappe but failed to strike a deal with PSG. The plan pretty much is to bring both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe into the Bernabeu next summer. With Haaland’s 75 million euros release clause activated and Mbappe signing for free, it could be the best transfer window for Real Madrid for years to come.

Haaland can be a perfect addition to this Real Madrid squad. He could be Karim Benzema’s perfect descendent to pass on the baton to. He is a pure lethal striker who has a shot speed equaling rockets. Furthermore, he should fit into Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred 4-4-2 system and have both Benzema and Haaland start. With Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard transitioning to creative roles, Haaland could be a vital attacking addition and a solution to Real Madrid’s future attacking setup in the long run.

PSG FW Kylian Mbappe

Was there ever any doubt? There could only be one winner and that is Kylian Mbappe. A man who is already a favorite among the fans, even before he has played a single game in the White shirt. Such is Kylian Mbappe’s appeal. An absolute Real Madrid fanboy who dreams of playing for the footballing Royalty someday in his life. His dream was very close to completion this summer but PSG had its own intentions.

However, the possibility of a free move stays alive for next summer. But, that is only if Mbappe doesn’t renew with PSG, and luckily for us, that looks far from happening. Mbappe has refused contracts after contracts to realize his dream move to Real Madrid and even though he is playing with the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos right now, there is only a little chance that he would renew.

Mbappe bleeds white and that is an established fact now. His photos from childhood with a room covered with Real Madrid posters all over the walls are floating all over the Internet. With such dedication to the club, there is no doubt that a transfer will profit both parties. Quality-wise, there is not much to be talked about, Mbappe already has proven himself on the big stage.

He is someone who could be called the perfect forward. He has exceptional pace on the ball and has already mastered the art of finishing at 22 years of age. He has time and again been the difference-maker on the pitch and undoubtedly, he is a decorated youngster with a FIFA World Cup winner’s medal as well.
