Fans were sent into a meltdown as it posted to Twitter: 'Breaking News out of #TUDUM! Sex Education has been renewed for Season 4!'

The announcement was accompanied with a purposely amateurish video in the style of Moordale High's news channel. A banner of yellow font with the spectacular headline ticker-taped its way across the screen.

Sex Education's third season aired on Thursday, and ahead of its release Netflix revealed the show will see Otis having a lot of casual sex, despite his declaration of love to Maeve at the end of season two.

Meanwhile, Eric and Adam Groff (Connor Swindells) are going steady after they revealed their love for each other at their school musical.

It was also revealed that Moordale is set to have a new headteacher called Hope, played by Jemima Kirke, who is said to be keen to make the school 'a pillar of excellence'.

New cast members to the show include Jason Isaacs who will be playing Mr Groff's more successful, recording-artist brother Peter, while Dua Saleh will be playing nonbinary student Cal.

Devoted: Fans were sent into a meltdown by the sensational news

The Netflix show left fans on a cliffhanger at the end of season two, with Otis leaving Maeve a voicemail apologising to her and telling her he loved her, but it was then deleted by Isaac (George Robinson).

The show's first season revolved largely around Otis falling for bad-girl Maeve and his effort to lose his virginity.

The awkward high school student made a name for himself offering sex advice to students despite not actually engaging in the act himself, since his mother (Gillian Anderson) is a well-known sex therapist.
