All Three Bears QBs Are "On the Table" to Start Sunday ... But Only Because Dalton and Fields Are Dealing with Injuries

On a Monday morning in which the Bears are still licking their wounds after taking a beating by the Browns, looking ahead to next Sunday is already making me queasy.

Bears QB injury update: Andy Dalton is still week-to-week. X-rays on Justin Fields’ hand were negative, but Matt Nagy wants to see how he looks Wednesday, which means Nick Foles is also a possibility for the Week 4 game against the Lions.

Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy says all three of his team’s quarterbacks — Justin Fields, Andy Dalton, and Nick Foles — are “under consideration” (via Mark Grote) to start on Sunday against the Lions. But don’t mistake that for some insane out-of-the-box decision to turn the season around. Instead, it’s due to the fact that Dalton and Fields are dinged up with their own respective injuries. Not that it will make you feel any better.

Dalton is still considered “week-to-week” because of the knee injury that sidelined him during the team’s Week 2 win against the Bengals. Fields, who replaced Dalton in that game and in the starting lineup for Week 3, may have banged up his hand on the offense’s final drive (per PFT) of Sunday’s loss. Hence, Nagy opening the door to the mere possibility that Nick Foles might start on Sunday. Are we having fun yet?

Although, we need to be very clear here. The only way Foles plays is if Dalton and Fields are both hurt. There won’t be clarity on the injury front until later in the week. Hence, the presentation of Foles as a starting quarterback is at our feet four weeks into this season. Let’s not make this into something that it isn’t. In the meantime, light a candle in hopes that things don’t come down to starting a QB3 who essentially has one foot out the door.
