Centre County Adds 4 COVID-19 Deaths, 78 Cases

Centre County registered four new COVID-19 deaths and 78 more cases of the virus on Wednesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county has now had 241 deaths attributed to the virus since the start of the pandemic, including six this month.

The new cases bring Centre County’s total to 20,002 (18,103 confirmed and 1,899 probable).

Pennsylvania added 5,012 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,491,146.

With 170 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 30,228.

Centre County also had 149 new negative test results for a total of 81,021. Statewide there were 6,345 negatives to bring the total to 5,581,106.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 32 COVID-19 inpatients, seven fewer than on Tuesday, with one in intensive care [-1] and one on a ventilator.

The patients range in age from 25 to 94, according to the hospital’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Seven are fully vaccinated and 25 are not vaccinated.

Statewide Pennsylvania has 3,031 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 31 since Tuesday, with 678 in intensive care [+2] and 362 on ventilators [-8], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since Feb. 5.

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Wednesday morning, 83,912 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+65 since Tuesday] and 6,528 are partially covered [+12]. Third doses have been administered to 4,730 county residents [+207].

Among the county’s entire population, 63.3% have received at least one dose and 54% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 70.6% have received at least one dose and 60.2% are fully vaccinated

Statewide, 69.9% of adults and 58.8% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.
