Status report: Buckeyes down two scholarship RBs against Hoosiers

Ohio State will be without the services of running backs Master Teague and Marcus Crowley during its game at Indiana on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET; ABC). The Buckeyes released their status report late Saturday afternoon, and Teague and Crowley are two of 14 players in all that won't be available for OSU in Bloomington. Ohio State does not specify why a player is listed on the status report, just whether they are unavailable or game-time decisions.

We are not privy to the reason why Teague is unavailable. However, sources told Bucknuts last week that Crowley suffered a knee injury that could be serious. This means that true freshman TreVeyon Henderson will start for OSU at tailback as usual, and will be backed up by redshirt freshman Miyan Williams and true freshman Evan Pryor. Williams is back after missing the last two games with what could have been "doghouse" issues.

Also back this week for the Buckeyes is senior defensive end Tyreke Smith. Earlier this week, head coach Ryan Day said the team is expecting big things out of Smith down the stretch.

Furthermore, fifth-year senior defensive tackle Haskell Garrett and fourth-year junior cornerback Cameron Brown do not appear on the status report which is good news for the Buckeyes. They each went down with injuries in OSU's previous game -- which came two weeks ago against Maryland.

Other notable additions to the status report include offensive lineman Harry Miller and tight end Gee Scott Jr. who are both unavailable.

Here is the full status report for the Buckeyes heading into the clash with Indiana:

WR Kamryn Babb
RB Marcus Crowley
S Jantzen Dunn
DE Tyler Friday
CB Jakailin Johnson
S Jaylen Johnson
DT Jaden McKenzie
LB Mitchell Melton
OL Harry Miller
DL Noah Potter
S Josh Proctor
TE Gee Scott Jr.
RB Master Teague
OL Enokk Vimahi

What this means for Ohio State

It's obviously not good losing both Teague and Crowley, but as long as Henderson and Williams (and Pryor) stay healthy today, it shouldn't have much of an impact on this game. Henderson and Williams are the two best backs on this roster anyway, and Pryor has been impressive when he's received spot duty late in blowouts. The Buckeyes should be more than fine with those three holding the fort down at RB. Again, with the caveat being that they stay healthy.

Garrett has been dealing with an ankle ailment for much of the season and appeared to re-injure it against Maryland. The off week did him well and it's good news for the Buckeyes that they will have their top defensive tackle available for IU. (Although, true freshman Tyleik Williams is making a strong push to be the best DT on this team, but that honor still goes to Garrett for now.)

Brown has been performing well at corner following an Achilles injury that wiped out almost all of his 2020 season. He appeared to suffer a concussion against the Terrapins, so he's another example of benefiting from the off week. I doubt he would have been able to play if there was a game last Saturday. With true freshman Denzel Burke, Brown and senior Sevyn Banks, the Buckeyes have formed a nice top-three at the cornerback spot.
