College basketball is back: UNC, NC State and Duke all play tonight ::

College basketball season officially kicks off Tuesday, when all our area ACC schools are back in action.

The University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University will both play at home, and Duke University will play away.

Tuesday's 7 p.m. game against Loyola will be the Tar Heels' first game with new head coach Hubert Davis. N.C. State will play Bucknell University.

It's a big year for ninth-ranked Duke, too, as the beginning of the farewell season for Mike Krzyzewski begins. Krzyzewski will retire after the season and hand off the responsibility to associate head coach and former Blue Devils player Jon Scheyer.

Duke will play Kentucky at 9:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.

UNC fans were not allowed inside the Dean Smith Center last season, but new guidelines in place through December mean spectators can watch the games in person again. Masks are required, and vaccinations are strongly encouraged.

The stadium is allowing full capacity for this season's games. The policy is vastly different from Duke's, where the Blue Devils require anyone over the age of the 12 to be fully vaccinated or have a negative test 72 hours prior to the game.

At PNC Arena, masks are required for all guests, but proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result is not required. A clear bag policy is in place, with only wristlet/clutch size and medical or diaper bags are exceptions. All non-clear bags will be checked at security, so expect a longer wait.
