Alabama football coaches get raises, salary total goes down

The annual round of Alabama football coaching raises and contract extensions were approved Monday by the compensation committee of the UA System trustees.

A total of 15 deals were unanimously approved in a batch that included the new deal for basketball coach Nate Oats. As AL.com previously reported, the new annual salary for Oats will be $3.225 million a year as renegotiated during the breakout season that ended Sunday in the NCAA tournament’s third round.

In all, the Alabama football coaching salary pool will dip by approximately $1 million with the 10 coaches on this year’s staff as compared to 2020. The group is still incomplete since tight ends coach Jay Graham resigned last week but if his memo of understanding salary is used, the 2021 assistant coaching staff will make $7.825 million next year.

That’s down from $8.85 million after Steve Sarkisian’s $2.5 million salary came off the books and new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien’s $1.1 million is added in.

The five returning assistant coaches got raises with defensive coordinator Pete Golding getting the biggest bump. He’ll now make $1.5 million a year -- up $275,000 from last fall.
