At least nine people reportedly injured in West Valley shooting incident

SURPRISE, AZ — One person has been detained after a shooting in Surprise that, police said, may be connected to a string of other shootings Thursday in the West Valley.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety, Peoria Police Department, and Surprise Police Department were each investigating reported shootings Thursday afternoon. Police have said that some of the shootings are believed to be linked, though that still remains under investigation.

A spokesperson for Banner Health confirmed to ABC15 Thursday afternoon that they received a total of nine patients at three of their hospitals related to the shootings, which they referred to as a drive-by shooting incident.

It's unclear if all nine are shooting victims or suffered other injuries. It's also unclear if additional victims were transported to other hospitals in the Valley.

Here is what authorities have confirmed.

Surprise shooting: Two people shot — one person with life-threatening injuries, one with non-life-threatening injuries — near 115th Avenue and Bell Road

Loop 303 shooting: A vehicle was shot near Loop 303 and El Mirage Road. DPS Troopers were assessing that situation.

99th Avenue and Northern: A female was shot and has non-life-threatening injuries, according to Glendale and Peoria police departments.

Around 12:30 p.m., Surprise police said in a tweet that they were investigating an "active police situation" and shooting near 115th Avenue and Bell. About 45 minutes later, police said officers made a traffic stop on the alleged suspect's vehicle and detained one person.

Surprise police confirmed that two people were shot. One person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and a second person had less severe injuries.

The shooting appeared to be random, police said.

In a separate tweet, Peoria police said the suspect was connected to "several shootings" in the West Valley.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said it was investigating after a vehicle was shot at, near Loop 303 and El Mirage. Troopers were still assessing the situation, a DPS spokesperson said.

The FBI and ATF are also involved in the investigations related to these incidents.
